Who we are

Cordaid Investment Management has been at the forefront of impact investing for over a quarter of a century, creating positive social change in the most vulnerable communities worldwide. As pioneers in this once-exotic field, we have played a significant role in shaping the landscape of impact investing, particularly in fragile markets where others hesitated to venture. Despite our focus on challenging markets and fragile countries, our investment portfolio has consistently demonstrated its effectiveness in delivering positive, sustainable outcomes. Our investment program has successfully fulfilled its purpose of catalyzing economic growth and empowerment in these underserved regions. We are proud to have paved the way for other investors to recognize the immense potential and opportunities in impact investing.

Beyond 25 years of impact

Today, we stand at a turning point, stepping back from new investments. However, this does not mark the end of our journey. Cordaid Investment Management remains an active and dedicated partner to our existing investees, aiming to bring in like-minded investors for further growth and development.

We take pride in the solid partnerships we have built over the years. Together with our esteemed partners, we have witnessed the transformation of lives, the creation of sustainable livelihoods, and the empowerment of countless entrepreneurs, particularly women and youth, across the globe.

As we transition to this new phase, we invite you to join us in celebrating our shared accomplishments and exploring the inspiring stories of the individuals and communities we have supported. Watch the video featuring some of our remarkable investees to discover our lasting impact.

Our history

Cordaid Investment Management is a 100% subsidiary of Cordaid Foundation. Cordaid is a development organisation operating internationally, working in and on fragility.

Cordaid combines relief and development aid to help people move beyond survival and live in dignity, working on themes such as health care, security and justice, and education. Cordaid is supported by nearly 300,000 private donors in the Netherlands and a worldwide partner network.

Cordaid Investment Management’s mission and goals are aligned with those of Cordaid Foundation. We issued our first loan to a microfinance institution in India back in 1996 and from there gradually increased our scope and scale.

In 2000, Cordaid decided to form a separate Business Unit to manage its investments. This Unit developed into the independent subsidiary it is today, operating in Africa, Asia and Latin America and investing in both MFI and SMEs.
