For more than 25 years, Cordaid Investment Management has been opening up markets in which organisations otherwise wouldn’t be able to fulfill their financing needs. We have demonstrated that it is possible to create scalable and sustainable impact in fragile contexts.
We deploy growth capital to MFIs and SMEs in the most underserved economies. By focusing on those opportunities that contribute to decent job creation, especially for women and youth, and sustainable economic development, we catalyse system change.
Worldwide, millions of adults have inadequate access to finance. This makes it hard for them to cope with unexpected difficulties, let alone start a small business or plan ahead. Microfinance institutions provide them with micro loans: reliable credit that allows them to build sustainable livelihoods.
MFIs that have significant outreach in rural and hard to reach areas
Creating access to finance, especially for female and rural microentrepreneurs
Creating long-term partnerships with primarily second- and third-tier MFIs
12 of the most underserved countries in Africa, Latin America and Asia
In Sub-Saharan Africa, well performing, resilient SMEs are unable to access local growth capital, while those enterprises play an important role in the economic development of their country. We address this financing gap by providing those enterprises with investments aligned with their business.
SMEs operating in sectors accessible to women and youth such as agriculture and waste management
SMEs operating in sectors that combat climate change, such as renewable energy
Four countries: Burkina Faso, Guinea, Mali and Sierra Leone
We aim to fill a financing gap, investing where others don’t have the mandate to go. Cordaid Investment Management is a subsidiary to Cordaid Foundation, which operates all over the world. Knowledge sharing and learning is a constant priority for all Cordaid professionals. This expertise allows us to operate successfully in some of the world’s most isolated and challenging places, accepting (and mitigating) higher risks than most. We have staff operating in the field and work in close cooperation with local stakeholders such as local governments, NGOs and community-based organizations.
